The 2007 Cove Creek Farm Heritage Day took place after a long-awaited day of rain in the High Country of Watauga County North Carolina. Saturday started out as a crisp, cool day and turned into a blue-sky afternoon reminding everyone that Fall is upon us.

The crowd was entertained throughout the day by musical groups. The audience was greatly entertained by The Lost Faculties (shown at left). This talented group is a local band of three Appalachian State University faculty members, Tom Whyte on ukulele and harmonica, Ed Midgett on guitar and Bob White on bass.

Other performers included the Forget-Me-Nots, 3 girls aged 10, 11 and 12, classically trained on violins through the Suzuki method who showed an early interest in playing old-time and Celtic fiddle music. (See a link to their website below.)

The Cove Creek Farm Heritage Day is billed as a "Festival of Mountain Farm Heritage ". The local chapter of the Disabled American Veterans provided a Color Guard for the opening ceremonies.

There were classic cars and trucks, a fire truck and old engines to view close-up. There were demonstrations of apple butter making and bee keeping. There was a seed exchange and a renewable energy display.

For children there were donkey cart rides and a petting zoo. For just a 50 cent donation to the Sugar Grove Developmental Day School you could give an ice cream cone of feed to the animals in the petting zoo. According to the Day School's website (see link below):

"Sugar Grove Developmental Day School (SGDDS) is a nonprofit 501(c)3 corporation, licensed to provide daycare 5 days/week from 7 AM to 6 PM, to 39 children: infants (8 weeks) through kindergarten. SGDDS is currently a 3-star center with the goal of becoming a 5-star Developmental Daycare. "
